Reshma - A Prostitute (PART 2)
Somewhere Reshma was broken after knowing that he was
married because she started weaving dreams of a better future for herself and
also for a family. She felt shattered and broken. Next day she took off from
the work for the first time and also she was granted as she never asked for
even one leave since she joined this service. That day she sat in corner of her
room. Her room, which consist of nothing but a wooden bed with one broken leg,
curtains with holes in every corner, a local make-up kit, cat’s shit all over
the place, bidi’s that she smoked every day and couple of packets if she is sad
or angry and spider webs in corner of the walls, that she cleaned only when she
felt the house is too messy for her. She sat in corner of her room, thinking of
what has actually happened last night.
Her cat was a good listener for her, so she always narrated
her daily life’s happening to her for sure. No matter where Reshma was as soon
as she gets back to her place, she makes sure to have a conversation to her
cat. While narrating to her cat what has happened last night, she realized that
prostitutes aren’t meant for making a family but just to wipe off the
loneliness and be treated like a commodity for man’s own pleasure. But she was
also unable to forget the touch of the man, because he touched her soul not the
body.
Reshma decided she would still give the man, the services,
no matter how much she loves him. One night the man was so drunk that he told Reshma
“I don’t love my wife; I was forced to be married to her because my father,
while dying, promised her that she would be married to me. I wasn’t even asked
Reshma!” Saying so the man touched Reshma’s hand, but he never knew he was
actually touching Reshma’s heart. That night was very special for Reshma.
Though she lost her virginity way long before meeting this man that night she
did not only offered the services, but gave away her soul to him.
Reshma was happy being in arms of his man every night, but
her happiness was not forever. After few weeks of that special night, Reshma realized
that she didn’t have her periods for a week now. She was puking, felt
unconscious very often and so on. So she went to a Doctor and yes as we all
would have anticipated till now, she was pregnant. Pregnancy was like a crime
in prostitution, so for Reshma it was a big trouble; she hid this from her boss
and mother. For her it was a proof of her true love for the man. She couldn’t have
just aborted the child. The same night she met the man again and told her what
has happened. For a change the man who was always drunk and lost in Reshma’s
laps was suddenly screaming, nervous, angry and throwing all stuff here and
there. He holds Reshma’s hair and said “you are just a prostitute, do not try
to black mail me, who knows whose sin is this! Bloody whore get lost!” these
words almost killed Reshma.
Sad and hurt, Reshma was following the man till he didn’t
pushed her away and sat in his car and vanished. From the very next day the man
never arrived for services, nor he came back to see Reshma. Broken Reshma
closed herself for a week in her room, thinking of what to do as all she wanted
from a man not his name for herself but a protection for the child she is
carrying. She never wanted the child to be raised in the environment she has
been brought up.
She knew to get the baby in world; she has to keep herself
healthy. So soon she joined her work back. Being away from regular customer
services since quite long, it was as if she was starting her job right from
scratch. She felt raped now, when she was touched by other men. But she has to
do her job. She faced many men who used to burn her with their cigarettes,
would bite her so bad that she would have bruises for couple of days, would
beat her with belt and so on. After few months, she entered her 5th
month of pregnancy and her tummy was growing and now visible too. She
eventually had to tell her mother and the boss that she was pregnant.
The instant reaction from both was that the child has to be
killed anyhow. Reshma was super scared, she already started feeling like a
mother to her child and she was ready to do all that was needed to save it. She
couldn’t sleep that night at all as both her mother and boss decided that the
child would be aborted the next morning. She realized that she have to run away
if she intends to see her child living. She took all her saving, started
packing all that was needed and ran away early morning of the day the child was
to be adopted.
Unfortunately, while Reshma was leaving, four security
guards saw her running away. They screamed and two of them waked up everyone to
inform that she ran away and other two guards ran behind her to catch her.
Reshma was running as fast as she could, all that she knew was to give this
child a life. But after a point she started having bad stomach aches, and
started bleeding. She could see that people were following her, so she couldn’t
stop even for a moment to breath. She kept running and bleeding really bad
after a point. Soon she started losing her consciousness and after a point she
fell on ground, with all her dress red with blood. Her eyes started being
blurred and slowly her eyes were shut. Following the blood marks, those two
guards finally reached the place, where Reshma was lying covered with blood.
They checked her nerves and realized that she was dead, so was the life in her
womb.
Being a woman, all her life she served man, but no man had
courage to give her better life. Her boss and her mother served her till she
wasn’t an adult then left her on her own. Being a woman too they both failed to
understand the feeling of motherhood, the feeling of love. They both never
thought of a better life nor offered Reshma a better one. Reshma was bought
back to her own house after the death; the guards were ordered by the boss that
she has to be burned as soon as possible. No one cried for her, but only the cat
who somehow understood the heart Reshma carried and also her purity in mid of
impure soul. Reshma was burnt and gone forever, but in the cat her emotions,
her secrets and her soul was alive.
