Four More Shots Please review: Old narrative with a different perspective

Sex sells.

Maybe that is why some of the recent web-series' in India (to an extent) explore sex and the emotions around it in much descriptive, realistic and to an extent, obsessive manner. Four More Shots Please, starring Sayani Gupta, Kirti Kulhari, Maanvi Gagroo and VJ Bani, is no different.

The web-series is a journey of four women coming from different walks of lives who happen to meet each other in a Truck Bar, which they assumed to be "Fuck Bar." Well, we leave it to you to explore the context behind the bar's name.

Sayani (Damini Rizvi Roy) is a journalist, Kirti (Anjana Menon) is a single mother and a lawyer, Maanvi (Siddhi Patel) is too rich to do anything and VJ Bani ( Umang Singh) is a bi-sexual gym trainer.

All four characters are completely messed up in some or the other way but one place where they destress themselves is the bar -- owned by the very handsome Prateik Babbar's character Jeh Wadia (who also is the bartender) -- and of course, four shots (now, we know why the title.)

For the first three episodes, the series feels similar to any female-oriented films or web-series you have watched in the recent times. Let's just say, in simple words, the series is a longer and bolder version of 2018 release, Veere Di Wedding.

Sayani's role has OCD (reminded me of Kareena Kapoor's character having commitment issues), Kirti's role is of an overworked mother with no sex life (Shikha Talsania's character but for a change, happily married) and Maanvi Gagroo's character is of an overtly protected and a rich adult (a mix of Swara Bhasker and Sonam Kapoor's character). It is only Bani's character that has been sketched out differently in the series. Her journey is relevant, interesting and keeps you hooked. You notice her as an actor and trust me, she is quite convincing.

As you go on watching the episodes, it is the Maanvi and Bani's characters that grow stronger and their stories start making sense. Maanvi as Siddhi is constantly fighting body shaming and self-confidence issues while Bani aka Umang is a bi-sexual from a small-town who runs away from her family because of her fear of coming out of the closet.

Both Maanvi and Bani are to look out for.

Oh yes, not to forget, Prateik is too good on screen. His persona adds uber hotness. The series also stars Milind Soman, Neil Bhoopalam, Rajeev Siddhartha, Amrita Puri and Lisa Ray.

As the season comes to an end, the viewers are left on a cliff hanger, wanting to know what's next. Well, we hope we get our answers soon.

Having said it all, the series does not offer a never-seen-before experience but categorising it into the bracket of a chick-flick would be an injustice too. So, let's just say the series is an 'old narrative with a different perspective.'
